Who is this class for?

There’s plenty of advice out there about writing routines. But how much of it is actually realistic?

This class is for anyone who dreams of establishing and maintaining a writing routine without that feeling of discouragement or burnout.

Writers of all experience levels, genre interests, and backgrounds are welcome, including writers who feel shy about calling themselves a writer.

You’ll come away from this class with a defined framework for a sustainable and joyful writing practice: one that actually works for you.

Week 1 · May 7
Time to Write

Most writers are faced with a lack of time. How do we get the writing done when our schedules are simply so busy?

During our first class session, you’ll answer questions like:

  • How much time do I actually have each week for writing?
  • What time of day is best for my writing?
  • How do I make sure I uphold my writing time?

Week 2 · May 14
Space to Write

In Atomic Habits, James Clear claims that anything that takes more than 30 seconds to begin has too high a barrier of entry for us to actually want to get started.

During Week 2 of our class, I’ll share ideas for lowering that barrier. Through prompts, you'll answer questions like:

  • How do I prepare for a writing session?
  • What changes do I need to make to my environment to support my writing practice?
  • Do I need accountability in order to write? (According to Gretchen Rubin, about 80% of us do!)

Week 3 · May 21
Continuing to Write

Establishing a writing routine is one thing. Maintaining it is a whole other ballgame.

In our final class, we'll discuss routine sustainability, answering questions like:

  • How do I make changes to my routine when my schedule changes?
  • How do I keep writing when life gets busy and my energy is low?
  • When I get stuck in my process, how do I know when it’s time to take a break?

FAQs

Do I have to attend every class session?
If you can’t make it to one or more of our sessions, you’ll receive the recording to watch later on.

If I don’t arrive to class on time, will I be locked out of the Zoom room?
The Zoom room will not be locked. Join anytime: you’ll be automatically muted when you log on.

Do I have to have my camera on during class?
No one is required to have their camera or mic on at any point during class. There will be lots of sharing and opportunities to ask questions during each class, but participation is optional. You are welcome to ask questions and answer prompts in the Chat.

Will I fit in if I’m not a “writer?”
Absolutely. If you’ve always wanted to write, this is a great place to get started.

I’m in another time zone, and the class time doesn’t work with my schedule. Will you be offering this class at another time?
At this point in time, I do not have plans to teach this class again, and if I do, I can’t guarantee that it will take place at a different time. I recommend signing up for the class and watching the recordings.

I signed up for the class but can't attend anymore. Can I get a refund?
I try to price my classes with accessibility in mind. Because of that, I don't offer refunds, but you'll have unlimited access to the class video recordings and all class materials through December 31, 2025.

About the Facilitator

Honeybadger lattes & almond butter sea salt truffles from my neighborhood coffee/chocolate shop. Bobbing around in the ocean. Karaokeing to "Love Shack" with my husband of ten years.
